Language Arts May 14th - May 18th

Vietnam War Literature Circles created.
You chose the book you'd like to read; we formed teams and each team will chose pages to read each night and projects you'd like to complete together for an assessment grade.

Genre: Science Fiction
We'll be finishing our study of science fiction by reading Rain, Rain Go Away
and the Secret.

Units 21, 22, 23, 24 this week

Writing:
Hale Knows Heroes essays due Friday.

Study of the Illinois Constitution continues.
Review your flash cards each evening and complete Constitution Book (Blue Book!) pages
We'll be up to 63 by the end of the week.

U.S. History --
We'll be finishing our examination of the Cold War.
Menus are due this week.

Weekend:
Watch TV, read newspapers, check out the internet.  The NATO Summit will be here in Chicago.
(North Atlantic Treaty Organization which was created during the Cold War)
Due Tuesday -- a current event on the Summit.

Our final project is the writing of a 5 paragraph essay detailing themes developed through Elie's experiences.
Your planning should be complete -- template for character & theme; and an RL8.1.

Social Studies Week of April 30 to May 4th, 2012

Social Studies --
    We'll be wrapping up our study of World War II and the Holocaust by finishing the movie, Swing Kids, and completing research presentations.
     Finish reading Chapter 27;  create an RI8.1 planning sheet for your essay on
1. resistance
2. total control of totalitarian governments
3. compare/contrast Hitler's Nazi regime and the Capitol's control of Panem in the Hunger Games

    We will beginning our study of the Cold War and the Illinois Constitution.
    You will need 100 index cards.
